This year we celebrate TinyFindy’s 5th anniversary, a good reason to ask some enthusiastic TinyFindy participants about their experiences in the Tiny House market and their expectations for the future.
Dutch Tiny Houses
Andreas den Hartigh and Jan van der Hoog started Dutch Tiny Houses on April 1st, 2020: ‘No joke! The reason to start working together on the construction of Tiny Houses is our shared passion in making beautiful, sustainable and high-quality things. We both had the dream to build our own Tiny House and so we took the step together. Dutch Tiny Houses now creates and delivers complete Tiny Houses according to your wishes, custom made and everything around it. Think, for example, of the design, the permit application, the transport and the installation.’
The entrepreneurs see a strongly increasing demand for affordable housing: ‘Tiny Houses are increasingly seen as fully-fledged homes, which they are. Municipalities are increasingly issuing permits for this type of housing. Since the foundation of Dutch Tiny Houses, we immediately focused on building in accordance with building regulations. We soon developed our own construction method. This results in high-quality Tiny Houses that comply with the Building Decree and the BENG requirements.
Dutch Tiny Houses has been around for a little over 2 years. ‘During that time we were able to make several beautiful Tiny Houses. The biggest challenge was mainly related to transport. For example, we had to get a Tiny House of 5 meters wide into The Hague and we transported a Tiny House of 2 parts over a narrow forest path to a destination in Schijf. Every new design is a new challenge.’
‘We are mainly focused on customization and not on mass production and want to maintain our quality and enjoy making a beautiful product for satisfied customers. Andreas is convinced that the demand for Tiny Houses will only increase. ‘What is urgently needed is that municipalities will free up more land for the purpose of residency. And that is also a challenge.’

Tinyrebel
Tinyrebel supplies ready-made sustainable Tinyhouses for both permanent and recreational habitation. Hans Kaan talks enthusiastically about Tinyrebel’s adventures in the Tiny House market: ‘We started developing the Tinyrebels in 2018 and started production at the beginning of 2020. The development time has been quite long because we wanted to use CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) in our Tinyrebels. Sustainable construction has been our number 1 priority from day one.”
Hans is positive about the developments, but also sees some room for improvement: ‘The tiny house market has developed positively in recent years, but there is still a long way to go. There is still much to be gained, especially in the area of sustainability. Municipalities should also focus more on making the permitting process more flexible.’ But the positive feeling prevails: ‘We have a sense of appropriate pride every time one of our Tinyrebels is completed, especially the more difficult to access plots make it a great adventure every time.’
He looks to the future with confidence: ‘With each new Tinyrebel, we continue to innovate and improve. Over the next 5 years, our Tinyrebels will become even better and more sustainable than they already are.’
