The summer months are just around the corner and temperatures are already rising nicely, but are you fully ready for the garden and terrace season? Have you taken the outdoor furniture out of storage, hung up the fly curtain, and is the lemonade pitcher ready? Maybe this year you would like to give your outdoor lounge space a different style. We have a few ideas on how to make a big difference with small changes.
Varying with pallet sofas and cushions
Pallet sofas are budget-friendly, easy to assemble yourself, and can be custom-made for your specific terrace. In addition, there are many different pallet cushions available in virtually every colour of the rainbow. This allows you to create any atmosphere you like.
If you live in a Tiny House community and can swap cushions with each other, that is even more fun. This way you can give your terrace a different look every year at no extra cost. Throws, outdoor rugs and decorative cushions can also make a big difference to the overall appearance.
Versatile fly curtains
A bead curtain can be used to keep flies out, but you can also use it to create more privacy or to give the feeling of a separate garden room. If you have a veranda that is not fully enclosed, you can screen it off a little more with bead curtains or other fly curtains, for example macramé ones.
Besides offering privacy, they also add atmosphere to your terrace. Especially in summer, when doors are often left open, it is nice when practical solutions are also attractive.
Mood lighting
With some simple mood lighting, you instantly add mystery and cheerfulness to your terrace. A string of lights or a few lanterns immediately create a completely different look and feel. Outdoor lighting comes in all kinds of styles, colours and sizes. There is always something that suits your personal taste.
Just remember not to leave the lights on all night when you are not using the terrace, as nocturnal animals can be disturbed by it. Besides, you probably want to enjoy the stars yourself too. 🙂
Outdoor rugs
A beautiful rug makes a big difference to how your terrace looks and how cosy and inviting it feels. Whatever type of flooring you have on your terrace, wooden decking or paving stones, there is almost always room for an outdoor rug.
It feels pleasant under your feet and strengthens the style of your other decorations. It also helps a seating area feel warm and inviting straight away.
Flowers and plants
Plants naturally belong on a sunny terrace! Besides the permanent plants in your garden, potted plants on your terrace can help reinforce your chosen style.
Jungle terrace? Large neutral-coloured pots with bold leafy plants such as banana plants, bird of paradise plants or European dwarf palms. Asian-style terrace? How about bamboo in a large container? Moroccan terrace? Pale terracotta pots with olive trees, citrus trees and Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and lavender.
If you would like more colour, you can of course choose brightly coloured pots with summer flowers such as petunias, Spanish daisies, lobelia, geraniums and marigolds. Hanging pots or plants at different heights can also make a small terrace feel surprisingly spacious.
With a few small adjustments, your Tiny Terrace will soon have a unique atmosphere that you can enjoy all summer long. Time to go outside and enjoy the summer!
